It is with deepest sadness that I have to inform you of the passing away of Alf ‘Ginger’ Burnell.

Ginger passed away this morning in St James hospital

Alf was born on the 14.6.1924.

Signed for Hunslet RL on 15.4.1943. Made his 1st team debut 28.9.1946 against Swinton RLC at Swinton. He made 360 1st team appearances scoring a total of 114 tries in all. Gained county honour playing for Yorkshire. In 1954 he became a British Lion when he was selected to tour Australia with Great Britain R.L. Team. He finished his Hunslet career in June 1959.

Our deepest sympathy and condolences go to all Alf’s family.

Ginger you were a true Hunslet Legend on and off the park and will be sadly missed by all.
