Sadly I have to inform you that Ernist ‘Sonny’ Ruston one of our oldest Ex Parkside players as passed away.

Sonny died on the 25th June aged 91 our condolence’s to his partner Pat and all of his family.

His funeral will be held at Blackley Crematorium, Heaton Park, M9 8JP on Wednesday 6th August at 1.00pm.

Sonny learned his rugby at Hunslet Carr School and then played for Hunslet’s Under 16s & Under 18s at Parkside.

On leaving school his first job was at Tetley’s brewery in Leeds were he worked along side Alf (Ginger) Burnell, Jimmy Brogden & Lez Berry who all went on to play for Hunslet R.L.F.C.

When the second world war broke out Sonny joined the Royal Navy and served on the Cruiser, Devonshire.

He had the honour of representing the Combined Services R.U. side at Twickenham.

Sonny signed professional forms for his beloved Hunslet in 1946 and went on to play in a large number of games at stand off half before been transferred to Bramley R.L.C.
