Along
with Alan’s wife Margaret, their son Gary, daughter Linsay and
grandchildren a congregation in excess of 200 people gathered at St
Mary’s Parish Church, Hunslet, to honourer and remember Alan (Moose)
Preece.

The
service was beautifully conducted by: Fr. Chris Buckley .

Tributes
were paid by by Harry Jepson OBE and then he was followed by Peter
Jarvis.

Ken
Eyre who is on holiday with his wife Betty in the USA asked me to
represent him at the funeral . Ken also left a short and very moving
letter and ask that it be read out in church.

Alan’s
grandson Bailey paid tribute to his granddad by reading a wonderful
poem, Bailey your granddad would have been so proud of you.
There were so many people present that I would
struggle to mention them all by name.

Margaret
asked me to thank Alan’s friends who acted as pole-bearers,

they
were Brian Gabbitas, Terry Robins, Barry Lee, Phil Sanderson, Phil
Evans and Alan Simpson.

A
very moving moment was at the end of the service when about 50 ex
Parksiders moved to the front of the church and sang The Hunslet War
Cry:- “We’ve Swept the Seas Before Boys”

The
Church service was followed by a committal at Cottingley Crematorium
with a congregation of 80 people

We
all meet up again at The Hunslet Club, Hillage Road. For refreshments
or should I say a good drink. It seemed that every one from the
Parish of Hunslet was there along with others from far and wide.
There were people who had not seen each other for years reminiscing
of the good times they had enjoyed with the Moose and Margaret and
also playing catch up on how life was treating them.

I
personally finished up consuming much too much alcohol but I did the
correct thing and abandoned my car. Problem is I have forgot were I
left it, so if any of you good people spot it I would appreciate if you
would tell me were it’s parked so that I can go and collect it.

ALAN
YOU WILL BE MISSED BY ALL THAT NEW YOU

RIP
