It
is with great sadness that I have to inform you of the loss of Alan
Preece.

Alan
who had been ill for some time sadly passed away suddenly on
Wednesday 26/02/2014 morning.

Alan
was born on the 21st July 1938.

He
signed professional forms for Hunslet o the 12th May 1956
and made his d├ębut for Hunslet in a Lazenby Cup match on August the
13th of that year.

Alan
played a total of 390 games for Hunslet.

Alan
was awarded a benefit season in 1966/67 and Arthur Haddock the
Yorkshire Evening Post sports correspondent wrote an article in
Alan’s testimonial

souvenir
programme. In the first paragraph he says :-

A
good club-man who has given 100% effort at all times! This, I think
sums up Alan Preece. During his time at Parkside the Hunslet Club
have had players able to attain greater prominence but in the back
ground Preece grafted and kept his first team place for a decade he
was one of those invaluable men on a football field the war horse.
Without players like these who play away none stop a side is found
wanting.

I
would like to say Alan that you were a true friend a gentleman and a
legend you will be sadly missed by all that knew you.

All
our thoughts and deepest sympathy go to Alan’s wife Margaret his son
Garry, his daughter Linsay, and grandchildren Bailey, Kenzie, Maddie,
Milla, Isla and Cole, plus a very special little boy.
