It was a cold rainy day as members of Hunslet Hawks and Hunslet ex Parkside Players set off for Sheffield for a private visit to SITraN, which is the chosen preferred charities of both of the Hunslet organizations.

The Hawks party included Darren Williams,Phil Hodgson,Trevor Brown,Lois Fusel,Barry Eaton,Peter Todd and of corse Harry the Hawk.

The ex Parksiders were George Clark,Ray Abbey,Keith Rowson, Peter,Dianne and Chris Jarvis,Stuart Keane(who is also a Patron of SITraN) accompanied by his son Peter.

Darren, Barry, Lois and Trevor travelled by car as they had to be back at Kirkstall to a rearranged training session due to some sessions been canceled because of bad weather.
I was amassed what a good driver the Hawk was, as we speedily made our way down the motorway in the Hunslet Hawks Mini Bus to meet the Jarvis’s who had travelled separately to SITraN.

We were duly greeted by Dr Sarah Langdrige who had organized refreshments on arrival. Then SITraN’s newly honored Professor Dame Pam Shaw was introduced to to everyone from Hunslet. Pam then gave us all very interesting explanation of the ins and outs of Motor Neurone Disease, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. This was followed by a presentation of a specially commissioned Hunslet Hawks playing jersey signed by all the current players and with Dame Pam Shaw with no. 1 on the back and was presented by the coach Barry Eaton. Then Phill Hodgson – the Hunslet Hawks commercial director presented Pam with a cheque for £520; this being raised by the stars of the yesteryear evening and was held in the Phoenix bar last month.

We then went off in groups of 3 or 4 visiting all of the different laboratories. The doctors and scientists were amazed by the surality of Harry the Hawk. All our groups were stunned and fascinated by the dedication of the doctors and scientists working on these neurological cures. Their dedication is something else.

It was an honor and a privileged to be invited and shown around these wonderful facilities.
